I grew up in a let’s-celebrate-instead-of-giving-you-a-gift family so every year I survived birthdays without gifts but we always celebrated no matter how poor we were. I could still remember my debut, we celebrated it with a box of pizza because mom was really, really broke that time. We just had our midterm exams so we were penniless.

This year is no different but I am now more than willing to accept gifts from friends
