yet another kitchen disaster
Posted by entrepremom on October 21st, 2009
After the kitchen accident ten days ago, I vowed that I will take extra care in handling knives and use a garlic crusher in crushing or mincing garlic instead of a knife. I have this thing with knives, weird but I cringe just at the sight of any knife, especially butcher’s.
Just when everything went okay and I can now hold or wash a knife without a flashback on what has happened days ago, another emergency happened last night.
Yona was playing Dora games on Kelly and I was heating the frying pan when she asked for help. I placed the ‘yummy daing (dried fish)’ in the pan and went back to the living room where she was at. My bad. I got too engrossed with the games when I noticed that the kitchen and living room were already filled with smoke! I rushed back to the kitchen and turned off the stove but the oil ‘sipped’ the fire and voila! there was fire all over the pan!
I pulled the pan with the charred daing on it and brought it to the washroom and my bad again, I splashed water on it and yes, oil + fire + water = DISASTER! wrong! wrong! wrong! I really panicked this time as I don’t know what to do. We have no fire extinguisher at home and my mind went blank. I closed the washroom door and gathered my thoughts outside. Fortunately the fire was off in a few minutes, thank heavens!
Now our kitchen and washroom smells like an ashtray. I hate it.
Hubby told me that in situations like this, just cover the pan because a gush of wind will make it worse and yes, FOCUS.
Clean House: Wanted!
Posted by entrepremom on October 19th, 2009
Our house is a mess. It IS always a mess. I just don’t have the time to do the cleaning everyday because my hands are ALWAYS full with Yona’s whims and my online work.
Hubby has just started putting vinyl tiles on our receiving area and should I have known that a tiled house is better, I should have thought of this a long time ago. Sorry but we’re not bunch of people who cares too much of their house hahaha. We’re fine with clutter as long as we still have a space to eat and sleep. Don’t get us wrong, our house is clean BUT disorganized.
I just hope that the guys of Clean House could give us a visit and do some magic in our house. This really needs a make over. Our kitchen sinks are sparkling pink but I hate cleaning it every single day. Our kitchen needs something like an undermount granite sink which are coated in bacteria killing silver ions which kill 99% of bacteria on contact, cool huh? Our kitchen tiles, installed about 3 years ago are already full of cracks and scratches, so we need scratch-free ones as well.
Speaking of undermount granite sinks, they are made of 100% environmentally friendly materials, so worry no more about the environment as you install and use it. Don’t you think WE and our kitchen deserves a sink like this? You bet.
Safety in Malls
Posted by entrepremom on October 19th, 2009
I am a stay-at-home-mom who leaves home everyday. I make it a point NOT to finish all my errands in a day so I have a reason to leave the house again the following day. Not for selfish reasons but for Yona’s health. Yona by the way is yaya-less so its just the 3 of us at home so whenever I have errands, she goes with me. Normally, we would end up in malls to eat or to just window shop and yes, play in Toy Kingdom – Yona thinks that TK is a huge playground. In malls I can let her play and run around because I know that she IS safe. Oftentimes we play games like making words from cars with private number plates in the basement while we wait for other passengers.
But yesterday’s news really changed my perspective in staying in malls.
One shop in Greenbelt 5 was robbed. Greenbelt 5 by the way is the newest wing of Greenbelt. Built with state-of-the-art design, anyone who goes there would really feel safe because it LOOKS so secured. But how come armed men in Bomb Squad uniforms got it so easily? The management denied that it was their fault. One of the robbers was killed but others were able to ran off, rushed passed security guards (who were by the way ‘caught-off-guard’) and fled using a van. Christmas and Election 2010 is almost here so expect more of these crimes. Kidnapping, robbery, theft, etc.
That news really made me sick. I think the company handling Greenbelt 5 and Makati police should really be in their toes from now on. It IS in fact their job to keep people safe especially in this premiere shopping district.
Baby No More
Posted by entrepremom on October 16th, 2009
She’s just 4 but it seems that my baby girl is now a little lady.
Today she showed me how ‘brave’ she is and how she’s good at ‘handling herself’.
We were in SM very early today to avail the additional 10% discount to SMAC members. We purchased a bunch of stuff in Ace Hardware so the additional 10% mattered a lot that despite of the long queue and hot-headed shoppers, Yona and I braved our way to the cashier and finish the transaction before 12noon. She managed her boredom so well by singing nursery rhymes and by asking me (a gazillion times) about why other shoppers were in a hurry and why some of them were already mad. (Point 1)
She posed with two mascots, yehey! She used to be afraid but yes, today she was brave enough to pose with them! (Point 2)
She asked permission if she can ride the Sport Arbitation churva alone. Of course! She used to be a scaredy-cat kaya. I felt like crying when she told me “Mom, I am a big girl! I can handle this! Waaaaaah! (Point 3)
For the first time I left her in Kumon and she was like “Okay mom, you can go to the bank now. I’ll be fine here.” I made a lot of bilin like “don’t go out unless I pick you up”, “tell Teacher Lea if you want to pee”, blah blah blah…to which she answered with “Mommy…” + *roll eyes* (Point 4)
After Kumon I knew that she was already tired but we’re meeting her Dada back in SM to get the items we’ve bought. She asked if she can play in the Wonderland for an hour ALONE – I normally say NO to this request but today I said YES! You should have seen the word H-A-P-P-I-N-E-S-S written all over her face! I left her there for an hour as I played alone in Tom’s World hehehe (Point 5)
Finally, I know that this was really, really wrong but I asked her to find us a seat in Chowking. Hehe sumunod naman siya. I was making my order but my eyes were on her naman. But you know what? She found a seat for us! Amazing! (Point 6)
Parents dread to see their babies grow up but it is inevitable. If only we can delay it longer! I was just thinking how Yona will manage separation anxiety when I enroll her next year but I guess I need to deal with it myself.
Gameboy Advance or iTouch?
Posted by entrepremom on October 14th, 2009
I told hubby yesterday that we are buying Yona her own Gameboy Advance this Christmas but he told me that iTouch is better. Well, at least both of us can use the iTouch, right? whereas if I buy her a Gameboy, it would be solely for her. And in fact she’s already used to playing in an iTouch because her Tita, Tito and Papa Koks have it.
Gameboy Advance advantages:
- It is way, way cheaper.
- It is pink. Enough said.
- It is handy and she can carry it around using a sling for gadgets.
- Less fragile.
- It is solely hers. One she can call as “Yona’s Gadget”.
- I can use it, Marcelle can use it and Yona can definitely use it.
- More applications of course!
I don’t know. What do you think?
Should I be guilty for giving my child infant formula?
Posted by entrepremom on October 14th, 2009
For moms, guilt strikes whenever you can’t give your kids something that they truly need. On my case, it includes breastfeeding.
It’s been 4 years and a month but I am still carrying that guilt for I was not able to breastfeed my daughter. I gave birth via Caesarian section so I was asleep during the first hours of my daughter. They gave her a very expensive formula milk for her to ‘shut up and sleep’ because she was already wailing therefore disturbing other babies in NICU. I tried to give her breast milk the following day and the day after but I stopped because of personal issues and all, also known as post-partum blues. I felt that I was not giving her enough so we switched to infant formula.
Her pedia considered a less expensive formula because she was concerned about our finances and reminded me that babies will get the same nutrients in milk advertised by giant milk companies even if I give her store brand formula. She even added “It’s not about the milk…” and I believed her.
Now, on to my question: Should I be guilty for giving my child infant formula? I guess not. But I’d definitely breastfeed my next baby for I believe that breast milk is still the gold standard in infant nutrition. I am even more thankful that a lot of programs are now geared to promote breastfeeding among mothers that even the WIC has supported this by deducting 20% for formula subsidies in order to increase breastfeeding rates among families.
Rollercoaster
Posted by entrepremom on October 14th, 2009
Every once in a while I would get too melodramatic. Blame it to the movies I watch, the books I read or anything that’s happening.
The past few days I was in a roller coaster of emotions

The effects of both Typhoon Ketsana and Parma are still eating me, I am worried about my in-laws and every single soul affected by both typhoons. I want to give more, share more but I no longer could.
On a lighter note, I got so addicted to justin.tv where I could watch movies any kind 24/7. In a cable-less village such as ours, justin.tv is the next best thing.
Piolo Pascual. If I could offer Ninoy’s Aquino’s song for Tita Cory, I would dedicate‘I Fell In Love with the Same Man Three Times’ to PJ. I don’t know, I could feel that we are connected in a different way hahaha Been in love with this guy since 1994! Hindi pa siya sikat so this must be true love, ayt?

Twilight Saga. Finally got my books and refreshed myself with New Moon. I need to re-read all of it before the premiere of the movie this November. You know that feeling that you also want to be a vampire?
The past few days you’d hear me cry, laugh, cry, and laugh again. I am not a psychopath, it’s just a woman thing. *wink*

I definitely do not fit the description LOL!
Another Baby? Why not!
Posted by entrepremom on October 13th, 2009
Yona already turned 4 years old last month and my friends already reminded me that this is the best time to give her a sibling. Why not? She would be 5 by then.
I just said No. Hubby said no.
You see I always go overboard when it comes to shopping for my baby, my husband says so. But everything for our babies, right? I just hope husbands would understand that. “Life is so hard these days” they would always say, but who says that life is a bed of roses? It is a constant struggle so might as well spend everything we have for our lovely babies!
Now on to pregnancy planning. In case I’d give birth next year, I already have some must-have items in mind. These are the things that a child cannot live without in my own honest opinion.
Crib – The baby can use Yona’s old crib. It’s one sturdy crib that she used for 2 years. A good painting job will do the trick and instead of white I am planning to paint it yellow or pink. A crib is very important especially in small house like ours. When Yona was little we used to just put her there with toys and all.
Pushchair – One important thing for a baby. We need this for malling purposes. We already gave out Yona’s pushchair so I need to buy a new one for the new baby. I choosing one I would definitely not buy those bulky ones. I only need the umbrella type ones for easy transportability.
Slings – I need it. Any mom with babies need it. Baby wearing is cool, you know. Enough said.
Nursing Covers – I will breastfeed my baby. Period. And hubby better believe it.
Digital cameras – to capture all those moments! I bought one when Yona was little and I am getting a new one again in case I’d get pregnant.
Toys – We already have a lot but we might buy one for the crib. With babies it is important that you choose toys with textures.
And aside from all of these, I still have to buy new clothes and feeding bottles for the little one. I prefer clothes and stuff with flowers in the design. Flowers or butterflies.
Is it not obvious that I want another baby girl?
Making Feet Happy with Happy Feet Sandals
Posted by entrepremom on October 10th, 2009
Mom’s been bothering me about Happy Feet Sandals so we gave it a go today.
Luck must be with us for we saw the red Buy 1 Take 1 sign in the Happy Feet Sandals kiosk! Whoaaaaaa!
I got myself a Regina Painted in Sun design. (Php1,699)
and got mom a Regina Natural with white straps. (Php1,399)
not bad for a freebie, huh?
Mom’s been using Happy Feet Sandals since she was in college (mid 70′s). Back then it was just P199 a pair. She boasted that she has every color and every strap released by Happy Feet. Oh well… She introduced me to Happy Feet when it was relaunched back in 2002 and I got hooked since then.
My first pair of Happy Feet Sandals was a Regina Stained with white straps (P1,199)
It helped me during my pregnancy months when any footwear seemed so uncomfortable to wear. It may look heavy but honestly, it is not. It’s perfect for anyone…even the delicate preggy ones.
Happy Feet wooden orthopedic sandals are so comfortable and versatile that you can wear it anytime, anywhere and sure matches all your outfits. Most models have replaceable straps as well. Straps are sold @ P499 each.
TV, TV, and more TV!
Posted by entrepremom on October 9th, 2009
For a cable-less village such as ours, choosing a channel to tune into can be such a pain. This is even harder during daytime when all you can watch in the local channels are game shows that do not entertain me at all. My daughter wants to watch cartoons but the local ones are limited that it already bores her.
My husband and I tried to contact several cable companies but to no avail. They’re not going to put up cable lines to our place because of some reasons. Blah.blah.blah. All their reasons simply irritates me! We’ve been finding ways on how we can have a cable TV without cable lines and the only solution we got from our research was satellite TV! Who offers the best Direct TV deals?
With an extensive list of Direct TV Packages, there’s no way that you’re not gonna like Direct TV. Visit their site now to see which package suits your viewing needs.
From the Direct TV offers, we chose their Family Package worth $29.99 with +45 Channels and parenting controls.
