After the kitchen accident ten days ago, I vowed that I will take extra care in handling knives and use a garlic crusher in crushing or mincing garlic instead of a knife. I have this thing with knives, weird but I cringe just at the sight of any knife, especially butcher’s.
Just when everything went okay and I can now hold or wash a knife without a flashback on what has happened days ago, another emergency happened last night.
Yona was playing Dora games on Kelly and I was heating the frying pan when she asked for help. I placed the ‘yummy daing (dried fish)’ in the pan and went back to the living room where she was at. My bad. I got too engrossed with the games when I noticed that the kitchen and living room were already filled with smoke! I rushed back to the kitchen and turned off the stove but the oil ‘sipped’ the fire and voila! there was fire all over the pan!
I pulled the pan with the charred daing on it and brought it to the washroom and my bad again, I splashed water on it and yes, oil + fire + water = DISASTER! wrong! wrong! wrong! I really panicked this time as I don’t know what to do. We have no fire extinguisher at home and my mind went blank. I closed the washroom door and gathered my thoughts outside. Fortunately the fire was off in a few minutes, thank heavens!
Now our kitchen and washroom smells like an ashtray. I hate it.
Hubby told me that in situations like this, just cover the pan because a gush of wind will make it worse and yes, FOCUS.
