The activities of their Golden Jubilee will start with February 18, 2010 as they launch their coffee table book “Unfolding Half a Century: The Lopez Memorial Museum” and the opening of a cutting-edge exhibit “Threads: The Museum as Site for the Weaving of Tales”.
The exhibit Threads will feature contemporary artists like Ann Wizer, Jean Marie Syjuco, Ann Pamintuan, Myra Beltran, Jef Carnay, Kiri Dalena, and Leo Abaya. All of them were invited to showcase their works taken from their personal conception of the museum or to “cosplay” characters present in iconic works from the museum collection. Aside from these the highlights of their performances and installation pieces will be exhibited likewise at the Rockwell Power Plant Mall North Court starting February 19 to 25.
Alongside these activities is the opening of the Lopez Museum’s 50th anniversary exhibition to the public at the museums premises in Ortigas Center, Pasig. The said exhibit will feature works of Imelda Cajipe-Endaya, Antipas Delotavo, Gastos Damag and Keith Sicat. The said pieces were once part of the personal collection of the late Lopez Group founder Eugenio H. Lopez Sr. The Lopez Memorial Museum and Library collection now ranks as one of the finest in Asia.

The Lopez Memorial Museum and Library was founded in 1960 with an initial collection of 19th century masterpieces including 36 Juan Lunas and 182 Felix Resurreccion Hidalgos. Now, the library currently holds over 19,000 Filipiana titles with 12,000 authors, rare books, manuscripts, maps, literary works. The institution has came up with a digitization project and conservation laboratory to provide quick and convenient access to materials but it ensures that the works are preserved for future use. The Lopez Museum committed itself to move their instituion forward by widening its engagements outside its physical structure, as well as pursuing an interdisciplinary approach to its exhibitions and programs.
