And by that, I mean learning so many things from Minecraft, Speedpainting to creating Youtube videos.
My two girls (10 and 4) are so into it. They have been building so many structures inside their “world”, playing Survival craft and all.
Is this a bad thing? I believe no, as long as it is played in moderation.
We didn’t subscribe to Homeschool with Minecraft because we couldn’t afford it. The website, by the way, has various classes from Basic Building, History, Math, Science, Art, Geography, and Literature among others. Fees start at $13.99. You might want to try it.
Do I understand it? Kinda. Just like the game itself, the whole minecraft thing is pixelated to me.
When we had our vacation in Manila September this year, I know that my youngest was still okay Playdoh and Surprise Eggs, then a month later, Surprise! Surprise! she was already gushing over Jen and Pat, her “favorite Youtubers”.
So what makes Minecraft so appealing to kids of all ages?
I tried asking my kids, but I got a lot of answers I certainly don’t understand. So I am giving the space to them.
YONA: Hi! I’m Yona, I’ve been playing Minecraft Pocket Edition with my little sister, Lana. We love making new worlds in Minecraft and we love making Elsa’s Castle from Frozen. In her world we always build 2-3 floored castles, while in my world we always build tiny brick homes that prevent creepers from coming in only using cacti and signs.
ME: How do you learn new tricks in creating all those structures in your world?
YONA: By watching videos, reading books, and just practicing. 🙂
ME: Do you think you are learning some cool life skills in Minecraft?
YONA: No, I don’t think so. Minecraft is all about building and surviving the night, but I don’t think it actually connects to the real world.
ME: Do you get into fights with Lana as you play?
YONA: Yes, because she always goes to Creative mode even if I tell her not to… 🙂
ME: Isn’t it addicting?
YONA: Yes, because I like pixels and stuff… 😀
(She’s just keeping it real hahaha)
And because of this ‘addiction’ to the game, she has been working on some videos and most of them are in Youtube. The video below is so far her most viewed one with 11,700+ views as of today.
Aside from ‘Minecrafting’, both girls are also into art. In fact, the little one is already learning the basics of Photoshop from her older sister.
