After being on bed rest for 12 days, I still experienced profuse bleeding
On April 13, around 4am I went to the bathroom to pee. After a few minutes I noticed a gush of pinkish substance on my undies so I woke my husband up and told him about it. A few minutes more, it was no longer pink but red! The flow was uncontrollable so I had to wear pads.
Around 8am, my sister said that she SHOULD bring me to the hospital per my OB’s advice. I’ve changed pads twice already that time so my OB was really firm in her decision to have me brought to the hospital ASAP.
9am, my sister and I were already in the Emergency Room of Medical Center Imus. Underwent a lot of tests, blood test, urine test, ultrasound among others.
By the end of the day, my OB visited me with her diagnosis: PLACENTAL INFARCTION.
Placental infarction is localized area of ischemic villous necrosis, resulting from interruption in maternal blood supply, more common at periphery of placenta

Here is a placentalĀ infarct. A small infarct may be of no consequence to the fetus, but if more than a third or half of the placental parenchyma is infarcted or lost in some fashion, then the blood supply to the fetus can become severely compromised and fetal demise may occur.
That time, I felt that I was ready to give up everything. I never cared less about of my work, though I sent them an email telling my immediate superiors about my situation.
During my 4 day stay in the hospital, I was able to rest and for a while I disregarded my tasks, orders from PH Bakehouse clients and all the dramas in the FB world though I was still in connection – thanks to Facebook and Twitter for Blackberry!
My family, especially my daughter were all with me every day, making my hospital stay a not-so-tiring one.

Everyone in Medical Center Imus were nice as well, no hassle whatsoever (kaya talagang mahal, LOL) From the doctors, nurses, maintenance staff, et al. All of them were so nice to me and my fam. Thank you!
Last Saturday, I was discharged from the hospital but is still required to be on bed 24/7. And this time, I am really in bed and religiously following my OB’s advice. I’ll never be makulit again LOL.
I’ve been staying home since April 1st and I can’t believe that I haven’t been out for almost 2 weeks. I am experiencing spotting on my 4th month of pregnancy. The sight of dark brown stains on my undies is quite scary
So my OB gave me meds (Duvaprine to be exact) and required me to move less and rest — in bed, good thing she didn’t require me to be admitted to the hospital because I am so scared of syringes brought by people inĀ nursing scrubs!
I guess this is way, way better than staying in the hospital though I must admit that there are pros and cons in this aspect. Here goes…
Pros:
- I’ll be fully rested in the hospital.
- I’ll get full attention from nurses in uniform, yay! (though it scares me to death)
- Less stress – - – yes, no work when I’m in the hospital! (but it means no $$$, too!)
Cons:
- No earnings while I’m in the hospital (no work, no orders, no tasks — bad!)
- It is very expensive in hospitals.
- I’ll miss my little kid.
Given these cons, I think I’d better stay home and be in bed for the whole duration of my bed rest. It will save me money and stress from my odd fear of nurses in uniforms, LOL!
