Some people say that business cards are old news, but I disagree. They are still a very powerful tool with regards to promoting your company at an event. By handing out business cards, you will give people a way of contacting your business. It’s a really effective way of getting yourself in the pocket of other companies and potential clients. Don’t forget your business cards, and hand them out whenever you get the chance.
A power pack (or two) is so important for modern conference goers. No doubt you will use your phone or tablet quite a lot while at the conference. This could be to make notes, film things, take photos, or even live tweet what happens. Either way, your battery will run out, and you run the risk of having 0% when you need charge. So, a power pack is there to help you out during the day and provide you with extra charge no matter where you are. Essential for you and any of your staff that comes along too.
For those that are unfamiliar with the term, a compendium is essentially a notepad on steroids. You have your sheets of paper, but you also have compartments for your phone, pens, cards, and everything else. They’re a must-have for business conferences as they keep you organized and ensure you have everything on-hand to make notes, etc. If you’re traveling in a group, you should get compendiums for your staff too. This way, everyone is nicely set up for the conference, and you can get a lot more out of it by taking notes.

As mentioned in the power pack point, you will use your phone a lot at a conference. Consequently, it should always be one of the first things you pack. Most people will remember their phone anyway, but there are some that might leave it in their hotel room or not get the most out of it. It’s always worth filming a couple of talks or presentations, so you have all the information on your device to watch back later. It can be very valuable, plus, you need your smartphone to communicate with any of your employees that may be at the conference but split up into different areas.
A Plus One
You’ll notice that most of these points have suggested you’ll have staff with you at a conference. In truth, this is probably one of the most important things you should bring to every conference; a plus one! Bring someone along with you, and you will have twice the success. Instead of one person taking notes and networking, you can have two or three. Don’t go too far and bring along dozens of people, I’d say four is the max amount you’ll need.
Make sure you don’t leave for a business conference without all these things!
